Camp meets from 10:00 am – 2:30 pm at the Beet Education Center Classroom at 201 E. 5th

In these fun, artistic, and educational mini-camps, students will create a variety of art projects that will explore all sorts of mediums, including fabric, pencil, clay, paint, and so much more! Camp is not complete without an art show on the last day! (Students should bring a lunch and water bottle with them each day).

Basic Drawing Camp

June 2, 3, 4

Start your drawing journey with confidence! Learn the essential skills every artist needs: how to use drawing tools, build forms from simple shapes, understand light and shadow, and sketch from life. Through fun exercises, still‑life studies, quick‑draw games, and creative challenges, young artists will strengthen hand‑eye coordination, boost observation skills, and discover how to simplify anything they see. Instructed by Shelby Lynne Bledsoe

How to Draw Dragons

June 9, 10, 11

Artists will explore real animal features, textures, and forms to design their own believable, beautifully detailed dragons. Through shading exercises, creature‑feature studies, and a final full‑scale dragon illustration, students learn how nature inspires fantasy. Perfect for imaginative artists who want to level up their skills and create creatures that feel truly alive. Instructed by Shelby Lynne Bledsoe

Impressionists: The Ultimate Rebels

June 16, 17, 18

Discover the rebels who changed art forever! Explore how the Impressionists—Monet, Pissarro, Cassatt, and more—broke the rules, challenged tradition, and transformed the art world with bold color, fresh techniques, and fearless creativity. Each day blends engaging discussions with hands‑on projects as students recreate famous works in paint, colored pencil, and pastels. Perfect for young creators ready to experiment, explore, and paint like true artistic rebels. Instructed by Shelby Lynne Bledsoe

How to Draw People

June 23, 24, 25

Learn to draw people with confidence! Students will demystify one of the most challenging subjects in art: drawing people. Through step‑by‑step techniques, learn to break hands, feet, faces into simple shapes, and practice quick sketching from live poses. Each day begins with a “draw from memory” challenge and ends with a dramatic before‑and‑after comparison that shows just how much they’ve grown. Perfect for young artists ready to draw people with accuracy and ease. Instructed by Shelby Lynne Bledsoe

Color Theory Explosion

June 30, July 1, 2

Unlock the magic of color and explore the history, science, and creative power of color through fun, beginner‑friendly projects. From mixing acrylic color wheels to creating monotone still lifes, pastel landscapes, and vibrant compositions on black paper, young artists will learn how color works—and how to make it work for them. Experiment with sculpture, study famous artworks, and discover how color choices shape mood, depth, and storytelling. Instructed by Shelby Lynne Bledsoe

Botanical Drawing and Painting

July 7, 8, 9

Discover the rich history of botanical illustration and learn how artists have documented plants with beauty and accuracy for centuries. Through hands‑on drawing, painting, and sculpting projects, young artists will study flower forms, leaf shapes, pollinators, and trees—building their own botanical studies from the ground up. A perfect class for curious creators who love plants, color, and the world outdoors. Instructed by Shelby Lynne Bledsoe

Pirate Treasure Hunt Art

July 14, 15,16

Set sail for creativity on the high seas! In this art adventure, young pirates will draw, paint, sculpt, and build their way through a treasure‑filled creative quest. From designing aged treasure maps and painting coral reefs to sculpting treasure chests, crafting parrots, and building their own pirate ships, each project adds a new clue to their artistic “expedition.” With every activity, students strengthen their art skills while diving into imaginative storytelling. Instructed by Shelby Lynne Bledsoe

“To Create Art is to Create the World”

July 21, 22, 23

See music, feel color, and create like Kandinsky! Students will explore the life and imagination of Wassily Kandinsky—the pioneer of abstract art who believed colors carried emotion and music could be painted. Through hands‑on projects inspired by his early landscapes, bold color studies, and iconic circle compositions, young creators will experiment with markers, acrylics, watercolor, collage, and even clay. Each day brings new discoveries about color, shape, and expression! Instructed by Shelby Lynne Bledsoe

July 28, 29, 30

Explore the elements of nature in this hands‑on art adventure. From sculpting clay animal masks to mastering the soft textures of fiber arts, turn raw materials and recycled treasures into masterpieces. Each day brings a new creative challenge as young artists stitch, weave, rip, paint, build, and invent their way through a series of playful projects. A joyful, tactile class perfect for makers who love to experiment.  Instructed by Mary Jansen-Hedrick

Art for the Soul

August 11, 12, 13

Get rested for the school-year and create art that heals, empowers, and inspires. Explore how cultures across history have used art to process emotions, find balance, and celebrate resilience. Through hands‑on projects inspired by Navajo sand painting, Japanese kintsugi, mandalas, Zentangle, and the emotional color fields of Rothko, young artists will learn how creativity can soothe, strengthen, and transform.
