Classes
Copper Plate Etching with Chine Collé
Saturday and Sunday, August 29 & 30, 10 am – 1 pm
$92 (non-member), $74 (member)
In this workshop, we’ll use a corrosive mordant to etch expressive marks into a copper plate. The etched plate is then inked and printed onto paper using traditional intaglio methods. You’ll also explore Chine Collé, a technique that allows you to print thin, colored papers along with the copper plate, adding areas of color or pattern directly within the image. Each participant will work with a provided 4" × 5" copper plate.
Beginning Linocut
Saturday, September 26, 10 am – 4 pm
$80 (non-member), $64 (member)
Discover the art of relief printmaking in this beginner-friendly class. Students will learn how to carve a 5" × 8" linoleum block by hand, apply ink to the carved surface, and use an etching press to transfer their original design onto a tote bag. This course provides a fun introduction to the fundamentals of printmaking. Linoleum blocks are provided. Instructed by Laura Grossett
Photopolymer Relief
Saturday, October 17, 10 am – 4 pm
$80 (non-member), $64 (member)
Students will learn how to use UV light to transfer an image onto a plate, creating a raised surface that can be inked and printed onto paper using a printmaking press. This beginner-friendly process requires no previous experience and uses no toxic chemicals. Provided plates measure 4" × 5". Participants are encouraged to bring several loose drawings or ideas to use as inspiration. Instructed by Laura Grossett
Copper Plate Etching with Chine Collé
Saturdays, November 7 and 14, 10 am – 1 pm
$92 (non-member), $74 (member)
Explore the traditional art of copper plate etching in this two-session workshop. Students will learn how to use a mordant to etch original designs into a 4" × 5" copper plate, then ink and print their plates using a hand-crank etching press. The workshop also introduces chine collé, a technique that incorporates colored papers into the print, adding rich layers of color, texture, and pattern. To make the most of studio time, participants are encouraged to bring a prepared 4" × 5" drawing or design to use as their starting point. Instructed by Laura Grossett
Watercolor Monotype with Stencils
Saturday, December 12, 10 am – 2 pm
$80 (non-member), $64 (member)
Create painterly images that range from loose and gestural to detailed and controlled, by drawing on a plastic plate with watercolor, water-soluble colored pencils, and water-soluble crayons before transferring the image to paper using an etching press. Stencils add an exciting way to incorporate repeatable shapes and layered compositions while making it easy to print with multiple colors. Participants should bring several loose sketches or drawings to use as inspiration. Finished image size will be approximately 8" × 10". Instructed by Laura Grossett
